I Broke It
You know that advice that every cyber security person tells you, that you need to keep up with your updates. The second side of that they don't usually mention, but what causes that thousand yard stare at the screen they own, is that updating software when you are an administrator, can break shit.
And so here we are, my problem, I love hosting my own stuff and being in control of my own infrastructure, but too ephemeral about the posts and their content to care enough to save them from the smoldering heap of a backup i made before i did the update. In fairness i have been on this kick where i try and teach myself how to repair the things i own and how to not just cludge them into working. Maybe this will be the next of them
Well back in the saddle of working switchboard graveyard after a whirlwind week over in las-vegas for defcon 32.
Where does one even start with defcon, It is something else, and still the most inviting, loving, strange, kinky, and just best technology community's in the world. This is only my second year and still feeling the stranger thing and getting to know people and faces. But at the same time, i cannot tell people enough, Come to Defcon, don't be afraid, yes i've heard all the stories, lock up your phone, lock up your wifi's, cancel your credit cards.
While if you piss off the wrong soul that is a chance, this place is about coming in with a open mind and learning things. To change perceptions, yes in some olden days defcon was the place of wild extreme parties and the wildest hacks where nothing was safe if it wasn't nailed down. But the convention has grown and now is even safe to bring your kids to, there are events and so many chances for them to learn. Check the videos on youtube, no trust needed.
What i hope to bring to form on this site name, if not this exact platform, is a more down to earth perspective of technology and the dangers they have in this day in age. Different threat vectors and the times that you should be wary and the ways that can come up that can cause new threat vectors to arise.
Probably some other crap that i want to go over. But as I have been shown, Gotta fake it till you make it. This year we make better use of that mask that people don't know, what once was doesn't always have to hold true, and change, while i hate it, being thrown into the midst of things and adventure and new situations is something old me loved. Now to work around the flesh suit.
